Research At National Labs To Transform U.S. Cities

With cities positioned to become even greater generators of growth, national laboratories around the U.S. have dedicated considerable resources to understanding how to improve urban systems. At the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), for instance, researchers have looked into how data analytics and IoT sensors can be used to study and mitigate heat island effects in cities. Mary Ann Piett, Director of the Building Technology and Urban Systems Division at LBNL, presented the lab's findings at last year's Smart Cities Week.
